Lorie found a little town called Tatamagouche where the old trains and station were falling into disrepair. A common theme. But the town got together and said “Let’s fix this problem” so they turned the train station into a pub, and turned the trains into a group of cottages. So we’re taking a detour to ride to Tatamagouche to stay in the caboose and enjoy the pub. It’ll take a few days to get there but why not? We’re in Pictou tonight – a little town that is just a stop-over.
As I mentioned, the words for yesterday were WINDY and no internet. We're in Tatamagouche now and have internet, just a slight breeze with blue skies and 25 degrees, and internet. Amazing but it'll be changing again tomorrow.
Yesterday was a really tough day. The 120 km was OK and we felt pretty good. The warm and sunny weather helped. But the wind was awful. The stretch along the coast where we had a 40 kph wind right on our nose was just painful. When the wind gusted to 60 it pushed us all over the road (we have a lot of windage with our panniers on front and back). But that's cycling.
A few pictures:
Heading out from Antigonnish; within a few hours we had ditched the arm warmers. Our first really nice weather day!
5 hours later and getting on the causeway to Pictou
This is where we stayed last night. No kidding.
The only place we could find a room in Pictou was in this trailed (AirBnB) in Pictou. The trailer was in some guy's backyard. Oh, it was kind of fun.
I'll catch you all up tomorrow when we're in our caboose!
Until then, adieu.
